About Me

Hi, I’m Sarah, founder of Gut Science Wellness — and someone who knows what it’s like to juggle real life while trying to look after your health.

I spent 20 years as a microbiologist, working in oral microbiology research in universities and on projects for multinational companies. I’ve got a BSc, MSc, and PhD under my belt, and I’ve helped develop everything from probiotics to catheters. I’ve taught hundreds of students in the lab and loved the science — but over time, I realised my true passion lay elsewhere: in food, health, and helping real people feel better in their own bodies.

At home, I was the one doing the shopping and cooking, always trying to feed my family well on a tight budget. My own health journey included IBS, ongoing mental health challenges, and a recent ADHD diagnosis, these have all been massively improved through my diet (no magic cures, just science! :-) )

After my son was born, my deep interest in nutrition really took root. I learnt how to make nutritious, gut-friendly food that my family would actually eat. It wasn’t perfect, but it made a difference — to our health, our energy, and our relationship with food. My son grew up with a balanced attitude towards eating, and I found a new direction. I retrained as a nutrition coach so I could help others find that same balance.

I love to work with people from all walks of life — parents, carers, professionals, people dealing with health challenges, people who feel stuck or overwhelmed. What matters to me is making gut health realistic. You don’t need to live an Instagram lifestyle or buy expensive “superfoods” to take control of your health. You just need practical knowledge, support, and a bit of kindness — especially toward yourself.

I’m here to help you feel empowered, not judged. No guilt. No shame. Just small, meaningful steps that can lead to big changes.
